(Playback) CPG Talk 1 – The Martyrs of England & Wales
The inaugural CPG Talk organised by the London Region was on the Martyrs of England & Wales given by Fr. Nicholas Schofield.
You can view the talk on our YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_-MINNURDg
The English & Welsh Martyrs were a set of brave souls who, over 150 years in the English Revolution (so called 'Reformation'), bore the ultimate witness to the Catholic Faith. Their stories are a timeless inspiration for all Catholics – challenged as we are to adhere to God's Law above all else; including against modernism, nominalism, secularism, Communism and relativism, all so pervasive today. Father will give some of the history of the time and some of his favourite Martyr stories.
Fr Nicholas Schofield is the parish priest at Our Lady of Lourdes & St Michael Catholic Church, Uxbridge. He was born in west London and educated locally at St Joan of Arc RC School in Rickmansworth. He then read Modern History at Exeter College, Oxford, during which time he applied to become a candidate for the Priesthood. Cardinal Hume sent him to the Venerable English College, Rome, where he studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
He was ordained on 24 May 2003 and worked as assistant priest at the Shrine of Our Lady of Willesden (2003-06) and Our Lady and St Joseph’s, Kingsland (2006-09). He went to Uxbridge in September 2009. Since 2005 he has worked as Archivist of the Archdiocese of Westminster. Father is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and enjoys writing in his spare time.
May the holy martyrs of England & Wales pray for us.
