Presentation To Ian Hopkins - Former Ch. Constable Of G.M.P.
On Friday 3rd December our National Chaplain Fr. Barry Lomax had the pleasure of concelebrating at a parish Mass in Salford Cathedral. The Rt Rev John Arnold, Bishop of Salford was the chief celebrant. Also at that Mass was the former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police Ian Hopkins Q.P.M along with his wife Maxine, his family and friends.
Bishop John publicly thanked Ian for his police service, especially in Greater Manchester and reminded us all of the need to support our police and other emergency services as well as the N.H.S. especially during and throughout this difficult time of the pandemic.
After distribution of Holy Communion, Bishop John invited The Lord Lieutenant of Manchester, Warren Smith, to present the former Chief Constable with his certificate of Service. The Lord Lieutenant in making the presentation, also spoke of Ians service to the police and the various counties and communities he had served during his 30+ years. He also thanked him on behalf of H.M. The Queen, whom he was representing.
After the Mass, there was a small informal buffet for Ian's family and guests, at which Fr. Barry was able to present Ian with a C.P.G. Plaque in recognition of his support to the Guild. On behalf of the Catholic Police Guild, we wish Ian, Maxine and family every blessing as he embraces this new chapter in his life.
